ClearCare: Helping you care for others

Home Care for Veterans

May 28, 2012

According to a recent analysis performed by Veteran’s Affairs, only 27 percent of veterans actually receive money from the Veteran’s Non-Service Connected Improved Pension Benefit Program.  Many veterans – as well as the majority of widows – are unaware that this program even exists.

The Veterans NSC Improved Pension Benefit Program was established in order to assist eligible veterans and their families with financial support so they can receive quality care as they age.  Now that seniors are living longer, many are choosing to maintain their independence at home rather than move into assisted living or nursing home facilities.  With the development of ClearCare’s home care system and home care software, more veterans are able to enjoy exceptional care at home; and thanks to the VA’s benefit programs, medical costs are significantly reduced.

Who Qualifies for VA Benefits?
To qualify for the Veterans NSC Improved Pension Benefit program, a veteran must have 90 days or more of active duty with at least one of those days served during a US-declared war.  Benefits are designed for those who meet specific financial criteria and demonstrate a physical need for health care.  Fortunately, ClearCare’s home care system and home care software make it easy for physicians, family members and caregivers to coordinate care – whether it’s on a full-time or part-time basis.

Many veterans assume available benefits are only for those who have suffered a service-related disability but the NSC program is specifically non-service connected benefits.  However, the VA also features a Disability Compensation program for those who have injuries or disabilities as a result of military service.  Veterans with disabilities can still receive care in the comfort of their homes with the assistance of a qualified caregiver and ClearCare’s home care system and home care software.

The Department of Veterans Affairs outlines the entire list of qualifications and considerations, so visit the VA website to see if you or a family member is eligible.

Why Veterans Choose Home Care
As costs of living and health care expenses rise, it’s more important than ever for seniors to carefully monitor their spending.  Programs like the Veterans NSC Improved Pension Benefit, as well as ClearCare’s home care system and home care software are designed to save seniors money, not force them to squander retirement funds or deplete savings accounts.

Utilizing a trustworthy home care system such as ClearCare allows Veterans to age in place comfortably at home, maintain independence, and enjoy a better quality of life.  The high level of supervision ClearCare’s web-based home care software provides is the only effective way family members can monitor their loved one’s care.  Such peace of mind is a welcome relief for the families of war Veterans.
